MORE FROM Shayla Reneé

About Me

I have always respected people who overcome and inspire others to do the same. The Iyanla Vanzants, the Dr. Eric Thomases, the Lisa Nicholses. People who passionately devote their lives to helping other people—are usually the most successful.

My Mom was the same way. A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) who anchored her medical team for 30 years while finding time to be the backbone of our family between overnight work shifts. I never saw her complain, shirk responsibility, or back down. Even when diagnosed with breast cancer and given two years to live, she defied the odds and lived for five.

She was the definition of an overcomer.

Watching her example, I came to trust the Scripture that says "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" (Jeremiah 29:11)

I would certainly need it. Deep faith in God helped me to overcome more trouble than a little girl from a small city should have to endure. Loss. Pain. Addiction. Abuse. Life-threatening Illness. Too many near-death experiences to list. Yet neither of these negative things defines me as a person.

By God's grace I stand today as a Christ-follower, wife, mother, ministry leader, women's advocate, author, entrepreneur—and overcomer.

Do you struggle with life hardships or a painful past? I passionately share life experiences and biblical wisdom to help everyday people—especially women of color—discover their TRUE Identity and thrive.
